Stories are how we learn and how we teach; they are a vessel for storing knowledge and wisdom. Through stories, we’ve learnt that repetition and entertainment brings understanding, in a constellation of touchpoints that transcend individual lifetimes. Our aphorisms, clichés and metaphors spring from the oldest stories – myths, legends and fairy tales – and give us salient ways to articulate our experience.

They also give us wellsprings of creativity and inspiration.

This exhibition at YAVA features the remarkable and fascinating work of Nerissa Box, whose passion for sculpting fantasy creatures has given rise to an exceptional body of work. Her professional life involves the creation of large-scale animatronic creatures for theatre, touring shows and theme parks across the globe; the application of her skills to her creative practice is now embodied in the works of Fantasy, Faerie Tales & Myths.

Nerissa’s work is complemented with a curated selection of artworks from a range of YAVA members, and the result is an exhibition leading you into a world of inspiration and wonder.

About PaYten & Jones

Behn Payten and Troy Jones grew up together in Healesville; graduating from the local high school in 1997. You could say they were destined to be (wine makers) together. With Behn’s father’s experience managing Australia’s first organic vineyard, they have created wine with minimal intervention and sustainability in mind. Their wine is a little rough around the edges with lots of character.

Drinking these wines is like experiencing a band live, as opposed to listening to a recorded track.
