Wine + Art!

YAVA’s goal is to inspire, educate and bring people together. World-class art, artists, patrons and collectors coalesce in our space, which is inherently tied to the Yarra Valley region. We’re passionate about linking food, wine & the arts as fabulous reasons to visit the Yarra Valley.

a little about tokar

Tokar Estate now has two generations working alongside each other. We have had immense success in recent years. Our wines have received many accolades and we have expanded our sales into the retail and restaurant markets.

Together with our winemaker, Martin Siebert, we are continually working to finesse our bold and distinctive wine style. The hard work and attention to detail that defined the beginnings of Tokar Estate continue to underpin our vineyard practices, and we still look forward to sharing a glass of wine and a meal with old and new friends.

YAVA is thrilled to be able to move beyond the gallery walls and curate spaces in our partners’ venues. The first of our winery venues is Tokar Estate. Through Summer/Autumn this year we’re showcasing colourful florals in watercolour by Crystal Tan.

Each of Crystal’s watercolour floral artworks is a colourful bouquet of delight.

You can see the artworks ‘live’ hanging inside Tokar’s beautiful new cellar door.

Crystal Tan is a self taught watercolourist and yoga teacher from Warburton, Victoria. Entranced by the shapes, textures and colours flowers provides, Crystal conceptualises floral arrangements on paper. Previously working in more corporate settings, she started painting during the Covid lockdowns and has never looked back.

When Crystal is not in the studio or on her mat, she spends her time with her two boys or walks in the nature walks that surround her home.

Tokar Estate Vineyard

The Gruyere sub-region of the Yarra Valley where Tokar Estate sits, produces a more savoury, dark fruited and structured Pinot Noir than other parts of the Yarra Valley.

Tokar’s Pinot Noir is made from the fruit of the two Pinot blocks, planted in 1996 and 1998. The main difference between the blocks is the orientation, Pinot A faces West whilst Pinot B faces East. From one we get structure and power and the other provides prettiness.

Winemaking

Tokar Estate’s Pinot Noir is made from several small batches, all treated differently to build layers of complexity. This is a wine of elegance and power, showing flavours of cherry, sesame, vanilla, smoke-cured meat and spice. Made with 30% whole bunches and 30% new oak.
