ABOUT CHRISTEN JO:

Jo has been involved in artistic pursuits all her life creating in diverse media while raising a family and teaching in High Schools in Victoria and in community settings in Canberra.

Receiving various awards for her work over many years including Australian Metal Clay Artist of the Year 2007, Australian Silver Artist of the Year 2008, Australian Wirework Artist of the Year 2008.

Jo was invited to represent Australia in the International Wicker and Weaving Festival Competition in Poland in 2015, working for a week alongside the world’s most inspiring basketry artists. Jo was also thrilled to be selected as an Artist in Residence in the Toolangi Sculpture Trail 20th Anniversary project 2016.

Her work is inspired by her fascination with, and the challenges of the diverse materials she works with, and by the beautiful natural environment around her. Techniques include embroidering by hand and machine, felting fibres, basket making in natural materials, modelling sculptural clays, and jewellery making with silver clays, letterpress printing, twisting wire into jewellery and sculpture, designing with beads and polishing stones.

She has been a contributor to many leading magazines in Jewellery and Basketry crafts with featured articles and projects. Jo lives in Healesville in the Yarra Valley and works in her Stringybark Studio.
