ABOUT JOHN:

“I simply try to respond to the world around me.

Wherever we are, we are embedded in place. That demands we have a dialogue with it. The scene before me poses questions.

Patterns and rhythms - environmental and social, living and non-living, cultural, mythological and mysterious - provide clues to uncover. I seek to learn something of their interactions and story.

Each photo, each image leads to further questioning. To my mind it is not about finding answers or capturing spirit - rather the journey demands the posing of questions and the crafting of a response without finality.

There is a continual quest to both improve ones ability to see and the apprehension of the lessons that are there to be had.”

John happiest in the bush or immersed in sea and has been lucky enough to spend much time in both, including almost twenty years in remote parts of Arnhem Land.

Photography, painting/drawing, printing and writing are John’s preferred creative outlets.

John sometimes exhibits under the name of George Grace - a homage to his family.
