Uncovering the secret of the colours hidden within the leaves of the eucalyptus trees

ABOUT CECILIA:

cecilia+sharpley_chandelier_04.jpg

Cecilia has spent the past few years trying to discover the secret of colours to be found within various eucalyptus leaves.  When the leaves are trapped onto paper through several hours of cooking, they transfer both their image and colour. Leaves can only be used once, and different species of eucalypts give their own colour to become unique prints which she uses as framed prints, lampshades or book covers.

When she isn't pondering the wonders of the eucalypts, Cecilia creates handmade artist books which display a wide range of techniques and incorporate her own handmade papers and utilise her past life as a calligrapher. At least one limited edition has been created annually since 1998.

Books offer the opportunity to explore other areas of printmaking, such as linoprint and letterpress, background surfaces such as pastepaper and marbling, and the many forms of traditional and designer bindings.

Cecilia is a regular participant of Yarra Valley Open Studios.
