atmospheric landscapes and a love for the figure

ABOUT JOKE:

I am inspired by light, dark, angles, shapes and movement, atmospheric landscapes and a love for the figure.

My studio, separate from the house, is my great joy where I paint and draw while listening to my radio as I have done for many years.

Looking out into our forest, the mighty gum trees, ferns and the old red gums along our creek, I am never short of inspiration or subjects.

I was born in the Netherlands and arrived in Australia at age 12. After high school I attended 4 years of night school finishing with a Certificate in Fashion Illustration. Work and my own family followed but I continued to take various art classes part time, a highlight was life drawing with war artist Kenneth McFayden.

After moving to the Yarra Valley, then later the Upper Yarra, I joined various groups and learnt from artists Shane Merry, Annette Iggulden, Mervyn Moriarty and Richard Granville-Smith.

The most recent group met regularly at the Old Badger Creek School where we enjoyed many years of friendship, painting, and drawing.
