The YAE Project is an initiative of a (then) 15-year-old of the Yarra Valley, Inica Smit, who had the idea to create a Youth Art Exhibition, including a competition for primary and secondary school students within our community. The YAE Project encouraged youth to take up a challenge and gave them the chance to produce an artwork for exhibition at YAVA Gallery.
”The aim of the YAE project is to provide an opportunity for youth to build their confidence in displaying their artwork and getting them involved with their local community. Often younger people feel that gallery spaces are only for “professional” artists – we want the emerging young artists to experience a different side of art, something they can relate to, something they can be a part of. Knowing that Covid-19 has had an emotional impact on our community and by including local schools, we hope the YAE Project forms a link that supports an overall sense of connection and belonging.”
- Inica Smit

about the project!
The YAE Project is the initiative of a young 15 year old of the Yarra Valley, Inica Smit, who had the idea to create a Youth Art Exhibition including a competition for primary and secondary school students in our Yarra Valley community. YAVA has mentored Inica to help lead this project and work with local schools to create both the competition and the exhibition which is being hosted in our beautiful YAVA Gallery in Healesville during January 2022. This program is an outlet for young emerging artists to create something uniquely their own and to have this seen by our broader community.
the exhibition!
The exhibition of nearly 70 artworks will take place from 13 January 2022 until 6 February. YAVA Gallery will be open Wednesday-Sunday 11am-3pm during this time.
