ABOUT MICHELLE:

Michelle operates her kiln-formed glass studio, Payne in the Glass, from her home in Don Valley. Her work is an ongoing investigation into colour and line. She incorporates thin glass rods, glass powder and glass shards into her work. She sometimes also uses copper mesh and imitation gold and silver leaf to achieve particular effects. Recently Michelle has been aiming for a more painterly effect to tell her story - letting the kiln create movement and shapes where it will.

Michelle creates her decorative pieces in the kiln over 12 hours and will open her studio to the public for the first time during Open Studios weekend in October. A range of glass pendants, platters, wall art and decorative freestanding blocks will be available for purchase.

Michelle holds a Graduate Certificate in Visual Art from the Victorian College of the Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Visual Art from Monash University.

Michelle participated in Yarra Valley Open Studios 2022 & 2023.
