ABOUT CAROLYN:
I work in multimedia specializing in polymer clay sculpting and textile manipulation to illustrate and weave imagination through the narrative of my work.
As a child of the 1950s, I was raised with stories of Fae creatures, Gumnut children living in the Australian bush and right there in my garden. I harnessed the lessons they would teach me. Their beauty and their treachery. Remembering the images in my childhood books, some of which I still have to this day, I am filled with joy and through that joy, I feel the need to give substance to them in 3D form. There is a little part of me in each creature I bring into being. As each one emerges, so does their story. Each story is specific to that particular piece.
I embrace the trials of process, experimenting with techniques and applications to find just the right combination I need to meet the needs of the project.
Combining imagination with my love of colour and texture allows me to produce unique, one-off creations filled with humor and storytelling. I tell stories illustrating them, bringing them to being for others to wonder at and appreciate. I aim to instill happy memories in those who experience my work.
